Styled by Stela Plaka for L'Officiel Belgium, The Daily Routine editorial showcases the Madison Maison Moc Croc Loafer alongside Miu Miu and Jil Sander. A handmade Italian loafer designed for versatility, comfort, and timeless style.

S eeing one of our pieces inside the pages of L'Officiel Belgium never feels routine, even when the story itself is called The Daily Routine. The Chocolate Moc Croc Flat sits at the bottom of the frame, quiet and warm, paired with Miu Miu and Jil Sander. That kind of placement says something about where this loafer belongs — and why it has become a quiet favorite among stylists working with handmade Italian loafers for editorial and everyday wear.

From the Studio

When David Assil talks about the Moc Croc Loafer, he does not start with fashion. He starts with construction. Each pair is built on a sacchetto technique that takes over two hundred individual steps, almost all by hand. The result is a leather upper that bends with the foot from the first wear.

"You can see where the women really love it. Because of the comfort. The beauty. Even though they're classic, they have a bit of a twist. The print is unbelievable."

After the original release sold through faster than anyone expected, Madison Maison reordered within weeks. Now David is expanding the line — a matte light pink flat (no bubblegum shine), a chocolate brown in a larger scale, a shiny navy in both flat and heel, and a dark green flat to lead.

A Madison Moment in L'Officiel Belgium

The story is called The Daily Routine, and it lives inside the print edition of L'Officiel Belgium. The image speaks for itself: a single Madison Maison loafer carrying the bottom of the frame, paired with Miu Miu and Jil Sander, photographed in the kind of saturated, deadpan style the magazine has built its name on.

The shoot was styled by Stela Plaka, who selected the Madison Maison Moc Croc Loafer as the foundation for the look. Her eye is what brought this placement to life, and we are grateful for the seat at her editorial table.

Why the Moc Croc Loafer Became an Editorial Favorite

Stylists keep choosing the Madison Maison Moc Croc Loafer for one reason: it does the work of three different shoes inside a single silhouette. On a set, that matters. The croc embossing adds dimension that reads quietly on a wide shot and becomes the focal point in a close-up — exactly the kind of texture a photographer wants when working with neutral leathers under controlled light.

It also photographs well in motion. Because the upper is hand-stitched on a sacchetto construction, the leather bends with each step rather than holding a stiff line. Model can walk a city block, sit cross-legged on a studio floor, or fold into a chair on a magazine spread, and the loafer still reads like a finished object. There are no gaps at the topline, no hollow spots at the toe. It looks like itself from every angle.

And it earns repeat placements because it pairs across dress codes. Stylists use the Moc Croc Loafer with tailoring (suiting, trousers, blazers), with denim (cropped, wide, raw), and with dresses (mini, midi, slip). It works as a women's luxury loafer because it lifts whatever it is paired with — not the other way around. That is rare in editorial footwear.

David Assil on Designing the Moc Croc Collection

"I wanted to create a loafer that had the sophistication of a dress shoe but the versatility women need today. The croc embossing adds texture while remaining timeless — it lets the shoe work with everything from denim to tailoring, without ever looking dated."
— David Assil, Founder · Madison Maison

David Assil designs every Madison Maison footwear piece in Beverly Hills and produces them in Italy through small, family-owned ateliers. He has spent more than a decade building a curated luxury footwear program that prioritizes Italian craftsmanship over trend cycles — handmade Italian loafers, sandals, and pumps that are intended to last well beyond a single season.

Handmade in Italy

The Madison Maison Moc Croc Loafer is handcrafted in Italy by artisans who specialize in traditional shoemaking techniques. Every detail — from the selection of the croc-embossed leather to the cut of the sole — reflects a commitment to quality, comfort, and longevity that machine production cannot replicate.

Italian shoemaking remains respected around the world because it combines craftsmanship, comfort, and attention to detail in a single object. Rather than chasing fast-moving trends, these techniques focus on creating footwear designed to be worn season after season — and to look better with age. The leather softens. The shape settles. The shoe becomes more itself.

Madison Maison works directly with small, family-owned Italian workshops. Every pair of Moc Croc Loafers passes through more than 200 individual steps, almost all done by hand. The result is a piece of made in Italy footwear that feels as good as it looks — and feels better the more you wear it.

How to Style a Croc Embossed Loafer

The Madison Maison Moc Croc Loafer is built to cross dress codes. Three of the most reliable ways to wear it.

With Denim

A cropped or straight-leg denim that hits at the ankle. The croc embossing on the loafer adds enough texture to elevate even a plain white t-shirt and jeans. For travel days, layer with a soft sweater and a trench. The Moc Croc Flat is the most reliable comfortable loafer for full-day walking under casual dress codes — a quiet, polished alternative to sneakers.

With Tailoring

Wear with relaxed wool trousers, a fitted shirt, and an unstructured blazer. The croc texture functions like a tailoring detail — equivalent to a polished cufflink or a watch — adding refinement without formality. The Moc Croc Heel is especially well-suited for tailored looks that need a 50mm lift; the Flat works for relaxed suiting and weekend office wardrobes.

With Dresses

Pair with a slip dress, a knit midi, or a tailored shift. The Moc Croc Loafer reads as the grown-up alternative to a ballet flat — refined, intentional, and modern. The Chocolate and Black flats pair with most dress palettes; the Navy and incoming Dark Green make a stronger statement against neutral dresses.

For Travel

One reason the Moc Croc Loafer has become a favorite travel shoe is sheer versatility. It packs flat against the side of a carry-on, transitions from a day of walking to dinner without a change, and pairs with multiple outfits — reducing the number of shoes that need to travel with you. Slip-on through airport security. Refined enough for a hotel restaurant. Comfortable enough for a full day on European cobblestones.

Why Handmade Italian Loafers Remain Timeless

Handmade Italian loafers have outlasted nearly every other category in luxury footwear for one reason: the way they are constructed cannot be replicated at scale. Italian leather is selected for softness and grain, not for uniformity. Italian shoemaking techniques — including sacchetto, in which the upper is sewn around the foot like a glove — prioritize natural movement over rigid shape. The result is a shoe that feels broken-in from the first wear and improves over years of use, rather than degrading.

That is also why the loafer silhouette itself has not aged. A handmade Italian loafer in classic black leather looks correct in 1985, 2005, and 2026 — and the croc-embossed variation does the same with a slightly more contemporary register. The Madison Maison Moc Croc Loafer follows that tradition: a refined croc scale, a comfortable last, and made in Italy footwear that is meant to be worn for years, not seasons.

For another recent example of how this kind of shoe earns its place in a wardrobe, see how television host Lisa Breckenridge built her first day in London around a single Madison Maison loafer in our London travel guide — a sister story to The Daily Routine.

What's Coming Next

The Moc Croc Loafer is expanding. Each new color was chosen for a specific reason — not a trend cycle, just what the women asking for it kept asking for.

Light Pink · Flat

Matte, not shiny. Avoiding bubblegum. Quiet and warm.

Chocolate Brown · Flat + Heel

A larger croc scale. Earth tones are big for next season. The most requested color of the line.

Navy · Flat + Heel

Shiny. Both silhouettes. Pairs beautifully with black — a David Assil signature.

Dark Green · Flat

Starting in the flat first. If the reception matches the others, the heel will follow.

"When I look at other moc crocs, the scales are very small. They don't look right. And the shoes are anywhere from $1,100 to $2,000. They don't have a sacchetto construction. Ours is made in over 200 steps. There is a lot that goes into each pair."

What is The Daily Routine

A styling story in the print edition of L'Officiel Belgium, photographed by Alessia Barontini and featuring Miu Miu, Jil Sander, and the Madison Maison Moc Croc Flat Loafer.

What is the Moc Croc Loafer

A Madison Maison loafer in mock croc-embossed Italian leather. Available in a refined scale that reads quiet from a distance and dimensional up close. Built on a sacchetto construction, the upper is sewn around the foot like a glove for an exceptionally flexible fit.

What is sacchetto construction

A traditional Italian shoemaking technique in which the upper is sewn around the foot like a soft glove. Each pair takes over 200 individual steps. The shoe bends and flexes naturally — almost no break-in period.

What new colors are coming

A matte light pink flat, a chocolate brown in a larger croc scale (flat and heel), a shiny navy (flat and heel), and a dark green flat. More to follow if the line keeps its momentum.

How does the Madison Maison Moc Croc compare to other luxury moc croc shoes

Other luxury moc croc shoes typically retail for $1,100 to $2,000 and use a smaller, less refined croc scale on a rigid construction. The Madison Maison version is $595, uses a curated scale, and is built on a 200+ step sacchetto construction for natural flex and comfort.

Where is it made

Designed in Beverly Hills by David Assil. Made in Italy, one pair at a time, in a specialty workshop where Madison Maison is the only outside designer in the world allowed to develop original styles.

What is a moc croc loafer

A moc croc loafer is a slip-on leather loafer made with crocodile-embossed leather, also known as croc-embossed leather or moc croc leather. The embossing replicates the texture and dimension of crocodile skin on a calfskin or lambskin base, allowing the shoe to deliver crocodile aesthetics without using exotic skins.

Are croc embossed loafers in style

Yes. Croc embossed loafers are one of the most stylist-favorited categories in luxury footwear right now. The texture adds dimension to neutral palettes, photographs well in editorial, and works across dress codes — denim, tailoring, and dresses. Editorial features in publications like L'Officiel Belgium have helped reinforce the silhouette's relevance.

What makes Italian loafers different

Italian loafers are different because of the leather selection, the construction technique, and the scale of production. Italian leather is chosen for softness and natural grain. Italian shoemaking techniques like sacchetto sew the upper around the foot for a glove-like flex. And handmade Italian loafers are produced in small batches one pair at a time, not on industrial scale — which makes them more comfortable and more durable than mass-produced footwear.

Can loafers be worn with dresses

Yes. Loafers pair beautifully with slip dresses, knit midis, tailored shifts, and shirt dresses. A polished leather loafer — particularly a croc-embossed loafer — reads as the grown-up alternative to a ballet flat. It is refined, intentional, and works year-round.

Are loafers good for travel

Yes. Loafers are one of the most reliable travel shoes for women because they cross dress codes faster than any other silhouette — a single pair walks a city, sits down to dinner, packs flat against the side of a carry-on, and slips off easily through airport security. Handmade Italian loafers built on sacchetto construction add comfort that mass-produced footwear cannot match.

How do you style a croc embossed loafer

A croc embossed loafer styles three ways most reliably. With denim, the croc texture elevates a t-shirt and jeans into a polished daytime look. With tailoring, the croc functions like a finishing detail equivalent to a watch or cufflink. With dresses, it reads as a refined modern alternative to a ballet flat — particularly effective with slip dresses and tailored midis.

Why do fashion editors choose loafers for editorial shoots

Loafers photograph beautifully because they balance elegance and practicality. Their structured silhouette holds clean lines on a wide shot while still reading as a wearable shoe in close-up. The versatility allows stylists to use a single pair across tailoring, denim, dresses, and casualwear within the same editorial story — which makes them efficient for a shoot and timeless for a print issue.
