Why the Moc Croc Hi Heel Pump Became an Editorial Favorite

David Assil on Designing the Moc Croc Line

When we began developing this collaboration, I wanted it to live somewhere between a tribute and a love letter. A tribute to Marilyn Vance, whose work shaped how I think about cinema and character. And a love letter to the era of film that taught a generation how to dress.

David Assil is the founder and head designer at Madison Maison, the Beverly Hills specialty store that has been Madison's home on Brighton Way for over three decades. He works directly with family-owned Italian workshops, traveling to Italy several times a year to source leather, refine silhouettes, and select the small details — the gold ring on the clutch, the kitten-heel pitch on the pump — that make a Madison piece recognizable.

Handmade in Italy

Every Madison Maison pump in this collaboration is handmade in Italy, in family-owned workshops David has worked with for more than two decades. The leather is Italian-tanned, the croc embossing is hand-pressed, and the finishing — edges, linings, hardware — is done by the same artisans who do the couture houses.

This matters because of how a pump ages. Italian-tanned leather softens into the hand. The embossing relaxes slightly with wear. A year in, the piece looks more itself, not less. That is the slow craftsmanship that catches a stylist's eye — and what brings the pump back into editorial frames season after season.
